Tribal Textiles produces unique hand-painted textiles in the heart of the African bush. Their objectives are simple: to create unforgettable and exquisite textiles while working in harmony with nature and benefiting the local community. Founded in 1991 with a small group of local artists, it has now grown to a thriving international business employing over 100 people.
The textiles mix traditional African art with contemporary designs, drawing inspiration from the stunning wildlife and surroundings in the South Luangwa. Each piece is hand painted by local Zambian men and women. Tribal Textile’s facility is located in a region of Zambia with high unemployment; it is one of the biggest employers in the remote area of Mfuwe. They are committed to providing sustainable employment, training and a good working environment.
They helped co-found the local community school, Malimba, which currently educates over 160 children. Originally selling to local safari lodges, Tribal Textiles products are now stocked across more than 20 countries worldwide. Despite a truly global presence, the essence and heart of Tribal Textiles will always remain in the African bush with the Zambian people.
