Eco filters give rural Guatemalan women access to clean water, which is key to their families' health.
Contaminated water is the number one cause of children's deaths in Guatemala. Access to clean water through an eco filter is the easiest and safest way to have clean water in the home. The alternative is to boil water with firewood, which is expensive, time-consuming, and can be dangerous.
The eco filter, a water filter that Communities of the Earth's Wakami program gives women access to, does 3 things: removes solids from the water, removes smells, and removes bacteria and other microorganisms, making clean water available to families.
Helping provide clean water to a family is easy. $22.78 covers half of the cost of an eco filter for water, making it affordable and accessible to a Guatemalan family. Your donation makes you a partner with a rural Guatemalan woman, who will be able to afford to provide clean, healthy water to her family.
Wakami Villages is a platform and methodology that provides rural women with products and services that can dramatically improve their quality of life - filters, stoves, solar energy, rainwater collecting units, organic gardens. Wakami Villages is a program run by Communities of the Earth, an NGO that works with rural women to incubate their businesses to provide a source of income for their families.
